A guide to choose your water bottle

Hello Again!

After reading my Plastic Free July Post and other info during July you might ended up considering buying a reusable water bottle. If you did… Great! If not, you still have time to go back read all about it.
Buying a reusable bottle not only reduce the plastic waste on the Planet but it also helps you to save some coins.

As always the problem is: We have too many choices. So I decided to make it simple and help you to find the best bottle!

Amongst all the options that we have when looking for a water bottle, I certainly do not suggest you to get a plastic bottle of any kind. Firt of all, you will end up throwing it away and secondly, no matter how the bottle was produced – there will be always toxins and chemicals in the plastic to harm our health.

“But Débora, my plastic bottle is BPA an chemicals free.” Well, no. In order to have no BPA or chemicals already proven to be harmful to our health, the producer had to use other chemicals that probably haven’t been tested in terms of safety to human beings. So, no no no no!

By erasing plastic bottles of our list the options are: Glass Bottles; Stainless Steel Bottles  and Aluminum Bottles

Glass Water Bottles

  • They do not absorb beverage flavours or chemicals
  • Easy to wash
  • There are no plastic-derived chemicals

  • More expensive than durable plastic bottles
  • Easy to break
  • Heavier than other bottles

Stainless Steel Water Bottles

  • Keep the water temperature for longer period of time
  • Easy to wash
  • Light and easy to transport

  • Scratches easily if you drop it
  • Some of them leave a metalic taste to the water

Aluminum Bottles

  • Easy to wash
  • Light and easy to transport

  • Leave a metalic taste in the water
  • Absorb flavours
  • They are not dishwasher safe
  • Possibility to have BPA

The conclusion is simple

No matter which bottle you end up buying, try to find the best match for you. The best bottle will be the one that satisfy your needs and it doesn’t contribute negatively to our planet. I believe that so far you understood that plastic bottles should not be an option.  I hope this guide helps you to find the bottle that will make you stop buying a plastic bottle everytime you feel thirsty.
